how much a month do you think it would cost to run a 900 gallon ray pond with 2 bd and all you feed them is massivore delight and run it all on sponge filters, lots of sponge filters.

Depends where you live, cannot work out from your title.....I can on,y assume somewhere illegal to own rays therefore warm climate. 2 main costs to rays....feeding them (costs a lot for quality) and hearing the water, if in hot climate then not an issue.

Rays are not cheap, they need good filtration which means good pumps running 100-200 watts and then good quality diet. Bds may cost a few thousand but that's a one off.

Please do not talk about sponge filters, you need to read up on what these guys need. The filters need to be the best you can buy.

just the cost of the 2 bd's. they'd be dead in a week

:ROFL::banhim::ROFL:

So $4000- $8000......

Might want to check and see if you can afford the rays themselves before worrying about housing them. IF you can afford the rays housing and food is just a drop in the bucket......

There are different types of sponge filters, if your talking about those little ones you stick in the tank don't even bother, if your talking about the big pressurized sponge filters I use then 1 or 2 large ones might be enough.

Feeding costs for 2 rays I would estimate as less than $100 per month, and that's feeding tilapia and nightcrawlers not pellets. How much it costs for heating and running the pumps would depend on your climate and how much power is in your area, I only pay 3.5 cents a KWH so it doesn't cost me much :)

where I am it is legal to own rays. already checked. what do you mean by pressurized sponge filters?

They need more than just one type of food in my experience. Variety is always the best idea.

Why sponge filters if I may ask ? there are a lot of idea with pond setup as far as filtration. From overhead filters, bead filters and etc. Your biggest concerns should be water flow (turnover rate) and size of filter/media. Rays puts out a lot of bio load. 12" ray have a lot more bio load than a 12" fish.

I know a noob question but whats a bd? Thanks.

becuase sponge filters are cheep to buy and operate. a bd is a black diamond ray.
