...if you can't house a monster through thick and thin then DON'T buy one.

I was trying to find a way to express that in my post; I absolutely agree.

Honestly, I'm already working on developing a 670 gallon water system for 4 rays, after that upgrading to a pond.

If my ray was sick, I suppose I actually would look into hiring a doc for her; that's just how far I would go, if I had to. Some people wouldn't agree, but there are certain limits on the amount of suffering a creature, any creature, should be put through.

Gooed luck finding a ray doc more knowledgable then what this site has to offer...... LOL.

Water volume is important..... But so is footprint. From my experience you CAN house a lot of rays in a small place and maintain decent water quality...... But none of this touches base on the fact that rays get angry at feeding time. I cramped mine and I believe this is the reason I have a scarred ray now. You can have a 125 gallon with a 1K gallon sump.... Great for water quality, but still have that same aggresion issues as a 125 with NO sump.

Your hearts in the right place man..... Just gotta analyze everything possible from every angle possible. If you do then there can be a plan, where there's a plan there can be an attack, well thought out attack..... victory....... Or in this case happy rays....LOL

So you are saying that the correct way to keep a 3' silver aro is to have a 6' deep aquarium? By deep i assume you mean wide.... there are definitely very few set-ups on MFK that have at least 6' wide (mine would be one of them).

, even you do not keep your armatus to that standard (and armatus is eSurelyven less flexible than silver aro)... or do you? (hmmm though i do seem to recall that you have quite a large set-up)

According to the above conversation, it seems that you guys are telling me that almost all people on this forum are wrong to keep silver aros then ey?

Ok!

Let me make it very simple for you.

UNLESH YOU HAVE A TANK WHERE YOU’RE FISH CAN ACTUALY FIT IN, DONT BUY THEM!

It’s so damn simple!

And I don’t care if there are 5 HUGE monster tanks in Asia or America! They don’t make up for the many 1000 of "small" tanks with HUGE fish.

Have you ever seen a 3 foot silver??? IT’S A HUGE FISH!

And a 8x9x3 foot tank ISENT huge. It’s a big tank yes, but no way near big enough!

And I don’t really get this? "Very few people on MFK have 3 foot wide tanks"

SO!? Does this justify the keeping of “monster fish” in small “puddles”?

“I don’t have the recourses or money for a large tank, so I will just put them in a pickle jar”

Is this the right way to think????

There is a golden rule that all Danish fish keepers know of. It says that you should NEVER keep a fish in a tank smaller than 2 times the fish’s size in width and 6 times the fish’s size in length. And this is an absolute MINIMUM!

My own fish you ask?

I have 1 pair of true hystrixs and 1 pair of true scobinas. They are around the 15 cm mark.

I keep them in a 530 litre tanks. Its 160 cm long, 55 cm wide, and 60 cm high.

So far there are plenty of room!

And I have a 80 cm wide tank in my garage. So I was ready!

But I am selling my rays now. I’m taking a brake from the large fish.

I will be keeping hypancistrus and wild caught discus the next two years.

Until I get my own space. I kept rays for 3 years at my farther. In 2 x L200 x W80 x H 60 tanks.

And In all this time I have NEVER kept my fish in tanks that didn’t cover their every need!

I have my back clean. But MANY MFK users should sell their fish and find a new hobby!

as your title reads "could rays work in this footprint"... the answer is Yes.
There is a chance that a motoro MAY outgrow this tank eventually, but you will have some time before this happens. That tank would be a great tank to start off with a couple/or trio motoro's or retics. Everybody seems kinda grumpy today.... as far as the silver and the longnose are concerned depending on size currently they should be fine for a long while also.
x2, i agree with this guy's opinion. it should be ok for a long while if not for life i would think.

and to the ladys in there having the cat fight: you need to start your own thread for your bickering that really doesnt answer the original question stated at the beginning of this thread. he asked if the footprint would be ok for RAYS, and he will be adding the other fish in. the question was asked about RAYS and nothing else.

lighten up there all mighty one.
I keep 3 silvers in a 300 gallon 3 foot wide tank.They are 26,28,30 inches
I keep 2 silvers and a blue in a 4 foot wide tank,They are 24,26,28 inches
they are all in perfect health and are very happy in there tanks(they told me)
I would gladly be reincarnated to a silver arowana in any of my tanks.

Your back is clean? Yes your English is top notch sir..........

As far as suggesting "But MANY MFK users should sell their fish and find a new hobby!"

I think you are a pompous ass, maybe you should leave the hobby, or just his board.:banhim:

oh and to answer his question i have had a castexi ray in my 450 for a while now,he is at the 20 inch mark.

Yhea, and that kinda says it all dosent it?

Yhea my English is excellent.

"My back is clean" is a danish expression, that i have translated to english. And it fits well!

And im sure your French is very good right?

If you put a 3 foot fish in a 8x3x3 tank here, you would get your ass burned/flamed.

The fish keeping skills of this site is just so low.........

The guys on the stingray forum though, they really know their stuff (and they dont keep their rays in pickle jars).

But reverse, I wonder why you got so offended by my post? Could it be......?

I am trying to recall where I said I spoke French?

Maybe my dovi are too cramped my tank is 7 foot long 30 inches wide and 24 inches tall. Will that be OK Anders?

I hope you feel my fish are well taken care of, your opinion is very important to me.

Now let me see if it works for me .........MY BACK IS CLEAN.......hey I kind of like that in a real supid way.

Thanks again Andrew, I mean Anders
