I recently got a big 17-18" GG but on closer inspection it looks exactly like my 15" RTGG minus the red fins the body looks nothing like a standard GG. Could it be a EEGG? or possibley a new species bad fin RTGGG?
Could this be a new osphronemus species!

I've read some where that EE's get random oranges blotches on them when start to get really big. It looks like it could be(orange on top of the head).
There is another sub species of GG, not redtails, not EEs but:
Osphronemus septemfasciatus. I can find hardly any info out there about them apart from the fact they exist. It is possible it could be one of these but impossible to verify.
Take a close up of the mouth at least then if it is a EE then there would be a picture on the net somewhere of the mouth

Thanks Bruce, I was looking at google images earlier and all the pictures I found were unconclusive in the teeth department. I'll just have to wait until he grows up unless can give me close ups of the mouth to compare .
If that red one is the septemfasciatus then yours is not red enough to be one.
We'll both just have to sit back and relax in the knowledge that they are giant gouramis of some sort
