Could this idea work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you don't mind having a larger cost, but over a long term, you could use sponges for now, then save up the cash for a small canister filter like xp2, or something.

Well, I got a bigger check than I thought I would (birthday tomorrow -- I know it's sad I rely on birthday money, but i'm 19, haven't had a job in 2-3 months, and have no car...).

I can almost certainly get a decent power filter. The one I have now isn't exactly top-notch (petco brand "Power Filter 65"), but it does extremely well. It has a BIO-falls media that hooks onto the water output too, for extra BB surface area, similar to BIO wheels...

I also just realized my 10% discount is off of my entire purchase.... Sweet.

Thanks dev... That is a pretty decent price.

I'll see what I can do. If all goes well I'll have something to show for Monday. ;)

for an inexpensive hob filter i really like my cascade 300's i have a 200 on my 20, and 2 300's on my 55 but then again my stock lists are ridiculous 1 300 would be awesome for your poly bare bottom breeder (3b) tank.

I'm going to be picking up a brand new 55g kit and stand tomorrow... It comes with everything I need, including a standard 55g Whisper (I believe) filter, so I will be set for a while. Once the bichirs and whatever else I end up putting in there put on some size I will upgrade the filteration.

I'm pretty excited. This is actually going to be the biggest tank i've ever owned.

Sweet. I remember when a 55g was the biggest tank I owned. I got two H.o.T magnums for christmas that year, I felt loved lol

Best of luck with your bichir setup!

Well, maybe not the stand... I just read reviews for the stand I was going to get, but most of them say they are quite unsturdy.

Anyone use Penn Plax metal stands? I don't need anything fancy, just something that won't break or fall over.

i love my H.O.T. magnum, i got one on my 90 that has my rtc in it (with 2 more hob's of course) it would be a great addition to the whisper 55 once your poly's get some size on them.
