Could this idea work?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sorry no experience with the stands i usually just build my own.

ok set up the filter today good news and bad news
It has a pretty heavy flow rate plus is a surface skimmer plus has a ton of media room
Bad news it's pretty noisy and takes up a lot of space

I have the Penn Plax iron stand, I got a package deal from an lfs back in the day (55G, stand, tops/lights, $100) and that was the stand it came with. It's not pretty, and it's rusted a bit over the years, but it's serviceable.

I would totally go the craigslist route if I was looking for a tank around that size (hell I went the CL route with my 170). You can probably find a 55 or 75 setup for a decent price with quality filtration and stand...though to be honest I always liked the whisper filters back in the day.

Well I picked up my 55g today. I also got a nice deal on a stand for it from a fellow Mainer here on MFK. I'll post up picks as soon as it's filled. I'm getting some paint tomorrow so I can do the background. After that, in goes the water.

Cycling won't take long, as I already have some seeded media from my other filter on my 29g I can use (Whisper 30-60)...

Sweet can't wait 2 see pix!

Even with just Dels that would look siiiick! Would look like fishgonewilds tank back in the day when he only had delhezis.

^ I think so too.... My three right now would need a while to get used to the bare bottom, but other than that, there's really not much stopping me. In a month or so I'll double the filteration (my kit actually came with an Aqueon 55, not a Whisper), and that should do it for a long while.

I think I'm going to do a DIY black background like I did with my 40B, and do the same for under the tank. I like the all-black look with the slightly purple tint of the lights... kind of epic.

I may even post up some pics tonight. :)
