Ok guys, I have a 110 tall currently stocked with freshwater. Im about to go pick up a 55 Saltwater setup in bout an hour. The guy says the tank has been running for years but I wanna transfer everything to my 110.

How would I go about this???????
Could I just switch everything over including water and just fill the rest like I was doing a 50% water change?

Thanks Wyze

your 110 needs to be cycled already. you might make it if you transfer all substrate and alot of live rock and all the bio from filter. It alot more sensitive with saltwater... Good luck!!

Yes, transfer all the water, sand, filters etc..... Then top it off. You'll still see a small cycle again as it all settles in. The bacteria colony will be distrubed, but not killed off.

That's what I was shooting for!!!! I just don't kill everything in the system with the new water!!!!!!!
In a perfect world I could just let the 55 run until the 110 was cycled but I can't have them both without hearing my wife's mouth!!!! :irked:

Heres the 55!!!!

How about fish etc????
Its got 2 tangs and some inverts!!!!!

Thanks

you might try just adding the least amount of water possible to keep equipment running

I would only use the filter from the 55g to start with also

Good looking out!!!! That 1 hadn't crossed my mind yet!!!! If I go that route I can just add the water over the next week or two!!!!!
Well my homie with the truck just called and we bout to take this hour ride to get the 55!!!! Hopefully all goes well

Let us know what happens.

If his sand bed is super dirty, it might even be the best idea to wash the sand...you are going to kill all that bacteria anyways, you might as well not have to keep all that crud in your tank.

Get everything including your old tank as clean as possible, and just set it up again. You will have a minicycle...but in a tank that big with low stock hopefully you should be okay.
