Coverting Freshwater to Saltwater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Surgeon Fish need a constant supply of vegatation - more so than just tank algae. I use Seaweed Salad mix or Norii sheets attached to a rock via a rubber band. My 3 Tangs eat 2 sheets a day - none stop - as does the coral beauty angel, damsel, and clown. It is probably the most important part of their diet. They will graze on just about any vegatation so rather than running around looking for liquid vitamins - look no farther than the refrigerator. You can chop up carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, red lettuce, clover, and frozen krill - soak it to soften and drop directly in the tank like flake food, or you could buy a quality frozen mix and add supirulina flake.

I'm finding out my self - saltwater life can be a real challange. I can get everything seemingly right and still fail due to yet unknown circumstances. Taking it slow has helped greatly but is not the cure-all. Fish are easy - corals and inverts - super touchy.

Actually maybe easeir to see what I'm sayin' - Rock w/ rubberband and almost eatin' Seaweed Salad/Norii - far left in tank shot

Yup, I have little suction cup ones...but have farmed rocks with macros to feed my tangs.

In my tank everyone from the tangs, to the angel, the clowns, and midas blenny have all been caught picking at it. The other day the melanarus wrasse gave it a look.

I use selecon and vitachem on my nori(s) so the fact that it smells like my frozen food is probably what does it.

Ive got suction cup clips I used with this stuff, plus I feed pellets and flakes!!!!
Im gone have to try some veggies we got in the fridge though, that sounds like a great idea!!!!!
