The Water Cow, Eleotris picta, is most often exported out of Ecuador, but has been reported over a wide range from Peru to the Pacific slope of Californai and even the Galapagos Islands.
Also know as the Spotted Sleeper, this large, goby-type fish that can reach 44 cm (over 17 inches) Standard Length. This benthic species typically lies in wait for its prey of fish or shrimps under stones or overhanging shorelines.
Generally occurs in freshwater, but is also sometimes found in slightly brackish river mouths. Found in tropical temperatures of 25 – 33 degrees C.

Just got one. I ID'd it as a Dusky Sleeper - LFS called it a cow. My channel is in love with it. So far eats everything, LFS fed it koi food. Big Mouth that opens very quick. When it eats topwater it makes a big splash.

When I got home last night I got excited that the channel was happy to see me swimming along the glass when he saw me. (Reminded me of my redtail) Of course 5 min later he got all shy again. I had in my mind what I heard about the Water Cow being seditary so I fed the two of them with their heads coming out from underneath the log. fed all my other fish and tried to make up with my redtail because I took a scissor to his whisker-(that's another story). went to go to bed and realized after I shut the lights out the pleco that's with the Channel and the Sleeper (cow) came off the glass so I decided to take a picture turned all the lights back on and the Sleeper and the channel were all over the tank having a grand ole' time playing and hanging

My Cow - doing very well. He is in with the CC and SFP. very active when I come home at night. the cow and the channel immediately go under their prospective hidey holes and look at me to eat. when they are done they swim all around. Which is great for the channel because his last move in with the RTC he was under the log all the time.
