Well, just went to pick up a new/used 220 gallon tank, and in the process of transporting it, it got cracked :( there is a 4" crack on the back right side of the panel running about mid way between the top and bottom of the tank, it started on the right edge and goes inward like i mentioned before about 4".. is there any secure way I could fix this crack or am I going to have to buy a whole new panel? :( any help is much appreciated, im only 18 so this is my first real "monster tank" and looks like im screwed on this tank :/

Aw man so sorry to here that. That really sucks. Post a pic. I had a similar problem with a 180 tank. I siliconed a piece of glass inside the tank to cover the crack. Its possible you can fixit.

I've cracked a tank while transporting a tank.
I buy a piece of glass for each side of the cracked panel, large enough to extend beyond the crack, and silicone over both outer, and inner sides of the panel.

Make sure to abut the glass against corners for extra strength.

I also like to out a thin bead of GE 1 silicone on the crack itself.

The above tank has been filled and occupied about 1 year.

The first crack is what happened sometime in the transport, the second spot is about 1.5" long in the picture and I was naive enough that when the guy told me that spot could just be fixed by me resiliconing the entire tank and just putting extra silicon over that spot that it would fix the problem, but upon further ispection and scraping off the silicon that spot goes conpletwly to the edge of the tank and is probably 3" long.. I made the mistake and got way too excited to be getting a really big (to me) tank unfortunetly and didnt think it completely rhough unfortunetly.. my dumb mistake I guess, and im kickin myself for it.

both spots are on the same back panel.. Im willing to guess that im going to have to replace the entire back pane of glass unfortunetly and just bite the bullet up front, my only worry is that Ive never resealed an entire panel of an squarium before, and I wouldnt have a clue how to go about it...

Well, I priced about a dozen different local places and the cheapest I could find for a glass pane big enough for my tank is gonna be 195$. Nobody has 1/2" glass and it needs to be special ordered. Is anybody familiar with changing out the panes of glass on aquariums and can give me some advice? Ive got the right silicone, im just worried about reinstalling the panel, I dont want to screw it up.. its a pretty straight forward process from what ive researched but im still worried as thats a lot of water pressure... thanks for any and all help guys.

I would do what Heyguy and Duane mentioned and just cover it up with decors or 3d background. I don't think its worth the money and effort in trying to replace it with a new pane.

That sucks dude! I had it happen to me on an 80g but I ended up throwing it out.

If you silicone glass panes over the crack don't you have to drill the end of the crack to stop it cracking further? Not sure on this but I'm sure I have been told that before...

If you feel unsure about sealing the crack I would indeed change the whole panel out . Trust your gut instinct ! Make sure when you change the panel out it is super clean and there is no dust around. It is pretty straight forward from there. Dirty glass or dirty surroundings can comprehend the sealing process. Good luck

I don't think this will be an issue with an aquarium. Crack running is typically due to motion and high & rapid temp fluctuations....like a car windshield

How sturdy would a patch be though? If I were to take say a 5"x10" .25" thick piece of glass and patch over both spots.. id still be worried that the water weight would be way to much over time.. especially with the way the lower crack is, this is what it looks like now that the silicone is gone..
