its been freezing in portland

I have one of these on my 60g but not so big and its in the middle of the piece of glass, not at the top or bottom. I haven't even worried about it since it holds water fine. I forgot all about it but now I'm wondering if I should do anything to it?

here's a rough update showing the mildew that was getting under the silicone. a full tank shot and the beginning of the stripping. couple more questions too. in the pics you can see really bad hard water deposits. i used vinegar and alcohol and the white crap will not come off so any ideas?

also i found yet another small chip about 15" up but on the inside, is it ok to use the glass repair kit inside? i'm not worried it its not because i probably won't be filling it much past that point. (it's going to be a poly tank)

once again great thanks for any help and i'll be posting the next pics after i use the repair kit on the chip

other pics are the brace and the plastic piece isn't touching the other side, i don't think its important but i definately could be wrong:) anyways if its not necesary i would like to take it off.

vinigar and warm water in a 5 to 1 mix works awsome on that build up BTW, wet it with a sponge, let it soak then scrape it with a sharp razor...

I have used the repair method before, and funny enough about 6-7 moths ago i segested it and was laughed at :D lol...

but it works, also wouldnt adding glass to the inside of the tank be a better idea to spread the load away from the chipped area?

leave and repair the center brace if at all possible. Tanks this size have been known to survive without them but personally I wouldn't risk it.

the plastic or the glass? i just didn't think the plastic was doing much since it wasn't even attached to the other side but i was going to leave the glass. if i should keep the plastic what should i use to fill the gap
