So I sold this 125g aquarium, which I built the stand, canopy, custom lighting, custom 55g sump, etc. I had it set up for several years, but sold it so I could buy a 220g aquarium. I sold it (complete setup minus fish) for $500.

So back in November or sometime thereabouts, I see an ad on Craigslist. Selling this aquarium. For $1,000. :screwy:. He talked all about how "custom" everything was, like he had done it all himself.

Well, tanks over 55g sell about as well as nuclear radiation in my city, so its been listed multiple times. He dropped the price to $950, then $900, and now he put up this ad for $800.

I'll post the ad after, but I just wanted to quote this doozy of a line:

"It has a custom built 3-stage filteration by a microbiologist."

Um, that would be ME. Technically I'm a biologist, not a microbiologist, but I guess it sounds better, right?

:screwy:

125gal Aquarium with custom wooden cabinet and lighted hood. It has a custom built 3-stage filteration by a microbiologist. Comes many extras, some fish and decor. $800.00 or best reasonable offer.

Who'da thunk you knew how to make custom thingymabobs?! Apparently you should put the stuff you make up for market cuz it commands a high price.

Have you replied to him?

Yep, that's your tank. Even I remember it. LOL

lol weird..

Hate to play devil's advocate but it is worth a grand. And you never know why he decided to sell. I might be more offended if he indeed tried to sell it for under 500. You know how it goes...you start high and always end up selling for a fraction of what you're asking anyway. To respond to you question/statement...I'd definitely be flattered if I were you! Very nice job on the customization and "filteration";)

Very much doubt if he gets what hes asking for.

There are always people out there that try to take advantage of others generosity and make a buck off of it. It has happened to me several times. It gives you kind of a crappy feeling but its his now so he can do whatever he wants with it. Take it as flattery and don't lose any sleep over it.
