I'd sell the tank and rid him of his money. Plus, any more water is better then a 10G. At least those oscars have a another few weeks of grow-out time.

at least he did the right thing to upgrade from the 10. he'll probably upgrade again when he realizes that he needs to.
Sell it to him. You are not his lawyer, priest or doctor. You don't owe him anything. You are selling a tank, and what he puts in it is his business.
P.S. The jackanapes who sold him the oscar for the 10 gallon tank are the ones who failed him.

This isn't a problem you can fix.. the "fish gets too big for the tank" problem has been around since the beginning of fish keeping and always will be.

Its difficult because i suspect he would take offense to being told he needed a much larger tank and it would just cause hastle for you and i think he will just buy a 30G from someone else if you dont sell him yours, its a loose loose i think.
I would sell him the 30G but advise him and inform him as much as is possible regarding the requirments of his oscars.

I wouldn't deny sale. But as a responsible fish keeper, I'd tell him the tank will be too small.
while i do feel bad for the fish, the bottom line is, you are trying to make a business transaction. the fish are already there, it is not your responsibility to care for them, unless you offer to put them in your tank.
lets say you were selling a 2 br house. if a man came to buy it and you thought it was too small for his 12 kids, their 4 kids, his sickly mother and his wives parents, are you really going to refuse his money? is it really your problem how many people he crams into the house?
i am not saying it is right to house oscars in a 30g. i would never do it, and i do not believe that anyone else on here would. but all we can do is try to take care of our own. we cannot afford to mix business with personal desires. it just doesnt put food on the table or in your tanks. you did just fine selling him the tank.
