Why do I feel that craigslist is full of shady people. Everytime I put something up for sale I instantly get emails from phony people wanting me to send them my name, telephone number, and adress. As if that's not worse enough I go to look at a 180 gal fish tank today that I thought was a good deal....yea I found out why it was so cheap. They stated "they needed to sell to make room for furniture they bought". I pull up to a house with screens busted out of the windows, a door that's been kicked in, and a bunch of baby pitbulls running around the house. The adult pitbulls had to be locked up before I could enter. Upon entry I find a 180 gallon tank with two emperor 400 hob filters (yes only two for a 180 gal tank), trim that's been cracked/busted off all around the tank, no top bracing for glass lids so 2 steal beams were hammered into the top to rest the lids onto , a 12 inch light, and last but not least the side of the tank had silicone slapped onto it to slow down a leak from what it looked like :WHOA:. I asked the owner if there had been a leak there that was attempted to be repaired and the response was, "naw it was like that when we got it". Who slaps a big gob of silicone on the outside of a tank to try and repair a leak  Needless to say my 2.5hr trip to pick up a monsterfishk tank today turned out to be a bust :irked:...I guess on the brightside I lived to tell about it.

Anyone else have some horror stories about looking at tanks from craiglist.

wow...i've had really good luck with craigs list other than people flaking out on deals and such.

You must live in a shady area. It's pretty straight forward around here.

Tanks no But I have just listed on CL aobut some other stuff for sale and yeah it's crazy after crazy with send me you info. I sent one guy my stuff but i'm glad I have paypal look into him and he's a phony I called him out and he admitted it. either he's going to mess with me or I got lucky and caught it in time. I had to spend a little time today moving my passwords around per paypals orders for saftey and luckily I have one of the credit monitoring things thought citi financial. I do not like CL at ALL anymore.

lol you should always ask for pictures before going on a road trip to buy something.. but yah craigslist can sometime be pretty shady with the weird sellers

CL is no better or worse then any other aspect of our society. You've just got to be smart and take some precautions.

Yea, I'll agree with the precautions. Like I said I had to travel a little over an hour to find this place. I live in a very nice subdivision in a small town. Socio ecomoic status can change drastically from area to area. I'm sure some of you have seen houses change drastically from one block to the next. I'm just pissed because I gave my buddy $30 to drive me down there thinking I was gonna pick this thing up.

sometimes buying brand new is worth the extra cash it seems.

Sometimes being the key word. I've got nicer aquarium items from a dumpster than what was available new.
