lol you should always ask for pictures before going on a road trip to buy something.. but yah craigslist can sometime be pretty shady with the weird sellers
Oh hell yes!
2.5 hrs drive time site-unseen? I better get a bunch of pics...If they give you any crap about it then they can just keep the stuff...

Its hit or bust for me.. but in cali things are better..

I bought a 60 gallon tank another MFKer.. it was a great tank and now we're friends..

As for stuff on crag.. u can't trust the words on the forum unless they provide pictures..

I've always had good luck. Seems most people are pretty decent around here on CL. I've gotten some great deals, but I don't drive anywhere without pictures and talking to the person on the phone. I've gotten some bogus requests while having things listed for sale, but even Ebay is full of scammers, so best to always be skeptical.

I have had awesome luck so far, I agree on getting pics when possible. The only thing is that some times the people who think that something is not worth taking pictures of, doesn't have a camera etc... is selling stuff the cheapest, and it's not always crap! If I think a deal is too good to be true, I try to ask ALLOT of related questions before drilling in on pics. If they are totally clueless and not demanding info from me, I am more confortable going after a good deal...

I did receive a pick before going, although I must admit the quality was nothing worth bragging about because I should have asked for more. We did speak on the phone briefly and I was basically fed a bunch of b.s.

all depends on the place once again i suppose.

i purchased and sold a few things over CL, and have got some killer deals. but i wont travel, or give someone my addy without talking to them first. if my 7 year old son sounds more educated, and i get a bad feeling, its just a no go.

i actually got my 250 from a guy on CL. it was in a pretty unnice part of NYC that to be honest, i dont belong going into. however he sounded like an older guy, presented himself very well over the phone, answered my questions, and gave a good feeling. thankfully it turned out to be a big fat old man, who was true to everything he said, and then some. i was quite scared the entire time i was getting the stuff, but all was safe :D

I have had great luck on CL. I once went to go look at a 20G at this dudes house and he led me to his basement where he had wall to wall aquariums running with fish and all kinds of crap everywhere. He had BOXES of heaters, BOXES of powerheads,BOXES filter media, driftwood, resin decor, medication, and flourescent bulbs, PC fixtures, Python kits. I thought I had MTS but this guy has it bad. So whenever I need stuff i go to him, dig through his boxes, make him an offer and we both are happy.

I've had decent luck on CL, but there are so many scammers if you are selling anything. Especially electronics worth $100+.

I sold my laptop on CL and I got spammed by 2-3 people per day from other countries wanting it until I sold it locally.

I have bought 1 tank on CL (125Gal) which turned out to be a 75G when I got there.. Thought I don't think they knew.

I bought 2 tanks on MFK and those were by far the best experiences / deals.
