Craigslist - tank sizes and prices

It all depends on where you are located. It's all about demand.

If you think the $1 per gallon shouldn't apply, try selling a tank for that price. I listed a 125G tank with sump and overflow for $175 and could not sell it. I had to drop the price and part it out.

Down here everyone is trying to sell there 55g tank for $500 saying they spent over $3000 on it and are giving you a great deal. I just sold two of my tanks on craigslist, a 40breeder and a 36gal bowfront. Sold them both with stands for $75. That is actually under the $1/gal equation especially with the stands included.

I look at it this way, this is a hobby and you are most likely not going to get what you paid for the aquarium in the first place. Don't give the stuff away but be reasonable. Advertizing and extra large aquarium for sale for $500 and its a 30gal is ridiculous!!!

I agree. With the economy situation now, people are throttling back on their hobbies and there's good deals on toys. A lot of the guys I work with are buying motor cycles, sand rails, razors, trailers, and other 4 wheel drive vehicles and equipment for almost nothing! There’s just so much available, the prices are crazy low right now. $1 a gallon I think is a fair price to start out with in my area. Next year this may change, who knows?

A lot of people have no clue about what they have.

Well I must admit I found my tank on craigslist and i got a hell of a deal...70''w by 18h by 12 depth..He never new exactly how many gallons exactly but I figured between 175-200gl's. And so I got the canister the water pump, the tank with hood and lights plus the stand for $200..Now i must say it was in great shape but it definetly need some TLC before I was able to display it. Plus the plumbing need a change..
Those are some odd dimensions but I calculated only around 65 gallons.
