people come into petco wanting oscars all the time but are not willing to upgrade when the time comes. Generally I'll try to refuse the sale if I can.

Who in the hell would have a child, grow it to five years, and then give it away? I know this seems extreme, but fish are a responsibility too. You CHOSE to buy it, even though you knew you didn't have any intention of housing it for life. WHY? Then, you try to give it away on CL, and it's large, and it's stressed, and it's hard to move. Just don't buy it. There seems to be a trend among fishkeepers to become "Monster Fish Keepers," but only until the fish grows. In this case, are you really keeping monster fish? No. I could keep a Great White for two months but what did that do for me or the fish? Nothing.

i disagree like i would love to have an indoor pond with an gigas however i don't have the room in my house to a full structure keeping a 6inch to 22 inch then giving him to a larger indoor pond i think is fine...the problem w/ the oscars is everyone can make that room for that tank...where as making room for a real monster fish is hard for a lot of people...i'm sure though finding a person on here who would want a larger aprima wouldn't be hard...just an example tho

How many times does this need to be said,
DO NOT COMPARE A HUMAN TO FISH.

Ok, your in a house with last two frontosa in existence who are a mated pair (work with me) and the most hated criminal in the world who is tied up to his chair. The house suddenly catches on fire and you only have enough time to rescue one of them. Which would you save?

cults make questions like these. besides technically if there is only 1 mating pair of any species then after they and their children die that would be the end anyway. unless you have them infinitely incested and in the case of people relating fish to humans is bad anyway. scientifically its already gonna doom the species. they will eventually be so frail they might just become sterile in the next few gens or even just die from being so damn frail.

i'm just saying there's situations where doing this is fine imo...like if u have a 180 gallon and u want a eupp. shark but couldn't affor a 400 gall/500 gall system for life...realize 180 system and 500 gall system are totally diff

aka jump from $100-500 isn't as bad as

500-2500

so in situations i think this is absolutely fine...if ur gonna house something that u can't give away then no...but if he's looking to sell it down the road i'm assuming it has longterm value

ps every try giving away a 6 inch pacu? lol i mean i wouldn't want one personally regardless of size...

basically just because there is scenarios where this is a bad idea doesn't mean it's always.

like a tignir cat would be another example i'm sure people would take 20 inch tig cats off ur hands.

Thats why i said work with me. I was just trying to make a scenario to change his view.

lol talk about the most illogical comparasion ever...i think i would prob save a stapler before the most hated criminal of all time...so i guess a stapler is like a child?

I know what your saying, I just didn't want people going off and buying monsters just to find they weren't able to find a home for them and the fish would suffer as a result.
