craigslist

oh and to answer your question. your basically raising a fish and selling it later which many people do. you may never sell your fish though. and if you don't then you will have to give it to a shop or keep it till death (naturally or not).

people here catch barracuda fingerlings from the boat peers, raise them and release them. and do it again with new fingerlings. since true barracudas are non existant in the aquarium hobby this is what alot of locals do. so far nothing disturbed, including the fact that all fish are wild and we merely "borrow" them for a time and they go back into the environment. this is a RARE exception to the rule of never releasing aquarium pets into the wild as it has worked since before Elvis embarrassed us and the only negative impact on our OCEAN life is construction/erosion and commercial fish related.

The size of the fish doesn't matter to its value. if someone want it, they will pay what they are willing to pay for it. but just for perspective, arowanas easily go for $60-100 over 12" but even 2 foot + arowanas are sold for no more then that.

Nobody wants to pay for an oscar on craigslist (hawaii). as many people give them for free (usually with a tank purchase) and you can catch them.

and then people successfully sell datnoids for $300+ (but imo they just look like boring ol fish). however they are businessmen and most advertise on more sites than just craigslist. no doubt their success comes mostly from elsewhere.

no and i see ur point too...just u can set up a 120 gall w/ a super exotic fish for $500 and house him for a while and if that makes you happy you should do it imo...if you can't house it forever there is deff fish that u can sell later or easily give away and if you can't up grade do it that way...then you can get another...and if fish are comprabable to people then don't we have foster homes?

btw...depending on how big this fish is and how big of a tank it is it might be a good idea to line someone up ahead of time...like a black tip from a 10x3x3 or w/e to a full pond or something of that nature...same w/ the aprima u could prob line that up ahead of time...

not probably. SHOULD have someone. agreed none the less. in my case i was raising an arowana in a 30 and later a 125 which i planned to move into my stepdad's 500 but i didn't want him midway through since he never let any expensive food get to my oscar and dempsey and he wets the floor on a daily. if i gave him to my stepdad now he'd be eaten by catfish and other bigger (24"+) fish. the aro is only 8" so i think its just as responsible to find a home for him now instead of grow him out.

seriously idno where these people sometimes get the idea that responsibility = having* to punish themselves into keeping fish they no longer want/ can handle. it is a hobby. getting rid of a fish is no more righteous than forcing yourself to keep it. you won't win a medal of honor.
