Earlier today, I noticed a lot of white substance (I assumed it was sperm). My female is all torn up and was hanging out in one corner.

My clown knife had some white stuff on him (again, i assumed it was sperm) and cloudy eyes. i decided to do a WC (this is the time of the week anyway)

50% WC with some salt and now I noticed my MALE's disc is curling up.. WTF ??

I have had him for over year, got him from a friend who had them for a while as well.

I was more concerned with the female earlier due to her disc's damage, but now I think the male is stressing over.

Lights are off, temp is stable and I have done all I can. I hope he pulls through.

Any other suggestion ? someone posted about a massive salt bath, but I'd imagine catching, removing and dump him in a concentrated slat bath would have stress him out even more..

anything else I should do ?

did you test the water before the water change?

sound like you could of maybe had a ph crash? then doing a WC has sent the male into shock. the white stuff could of been slime coat if the rays have become stressed.

are they in bare bottom or do they have somewere to hide?

all you can do is make sure your water is perfect, test it and make sure.

if he is in true death curl then there isnt anything else you can do. as you said removing him for a salt bath will probably make him worse.

when you did wc and added salt, how much did you add and how did you put it in the tank? if you threw it in the salt could of landed on the ray.

Sharp tooths got it pretty spot on i think. You have done all you can at this stage, you have to now hope the damage caused is reversible,if the ray or rays havent been subjected to the Ph crash for too many hours then it might recover......wait and see,i would guess the nitrate(No3) level was very high also, check this now,if this is the case then it will still appear higheven after the water change, dont do another change today,it will be better to change a small amount every day over the next few days.I change 25% of my tank water twice a week and i have 14 large aquaria, each tank has a bag of coral gravel to counteract any drop in Ph....works well!
I can sympathise with you, most of us long term aquarists have suffered Ph crash at some stage of our fishkeeping lives....i lost a fantastic Leo many years ago with this...sickening!!!!!!!!!
Good luck, hope you manage to pull him round.

Damn! I say lots of water changes and salt but you know that. let me know if you need anything....

He's dead...

I tested the water last night, PH was normal (7 ish). Ammonia wasn't. My test kit is pretty old, so it may not be very accurate, but now that I think about it, I may have seen slime coat peeling yesterday. This is after the WC. I may do a 25% today later on.

The tank is stocked, I needed to cut down a bit. I haven't had time to setup the drip system since we moved in the new house, I haven't had time to setup the 500 and now this may be my wake up call..

I'll dump some filter crap in there hopefully to get the BB population strong again. Anyone ever use those bacteria in a bottle ? do they really work ? I'll dump a gallon if I have to today.

What a great way to start the year, but I really should have seen it coming....I just hate myself for not doing anything about it

sorry about your loss. also what about your female then what tore her up? either you got lucky and he did knock her up or possible another tankmate got at her?

:WHOA: Dude that sucks! I am sorry to here that. Don't beat yourself up, you can't child proof everything as I like to say. I am sitting here right now knowing my main tank in running on a single pump without a backup running. I have other pumps of different sizes but if the main one goes out and I am not home then I am in trouble. Then the thought of a generator. What if I have a long power outage? We all run into situations where we get caught with our pants down. All we can do is learn and move on.

I still believe he knocked her up yesterday. I have seen ammonia burn with peeling skin, and yes I did see that, but what I saw on the driftwood was nothing like I have seen before. I relaly believes it was sperms.

if it is, great, if not, no biggie. My main concern right now is to fix the situation and get the tank back stable again. Then I'll worry about wether she's pregnant or not.

its the chlorine, you should always dechlorinator everytime you change the water, 50% WC is too much, or else use stock water.
