Crap!!!! My armatus now

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dude,

I lost one of armatus 3 days ago. The feeders passed on a strain of pos bacteria, all 3 of them had bad ich and the skin was showing a signs of fungus.
Because I didn't want the smaller one to get pick on (since he look worst out of all 3), I moved him to another tank, AS SOON AS I MOVED him, he started swimming with his head up and tail down. The next day he died.

HAD I not moved him, he'd propably still alive today. The other 2 got better just by higher temp, salt and water changes in 2 days

Moral of the story, don't move him, unless you have a tankmate that pick on him. If you need to, just put an eggcrate as a divider. Don't add anymore stress to him.

I'd do a water change and salt the tank as well as add some powerhead. Turn the lights off and hope for the best.

I really hope he makes it. I like that guy :)

this is the tank on the drip and it is super clean.. Tested and nitrates are staying around 10ppm. The tank has crazy flow from powerheads. The aro does not pick on him at all, but my big motoro is in here and she is close to 17" now. It worries me that if the arm gets near the bottom for too long she may get him. Sometimes he looks like he is straighting out then i look later and he is nose up.
After the filter slam he did, i went in to check on what was going on i freaked, he was upside down gasping.. after a few hours his breathing got better and was swimming right side up again. But still acting pretty bad.
I am thinking he is around 15"+ i hate to loose him.
Like i said his eyes are clear but has a few scratched from slamming the filter. Tank temp is around 78-80 so if he is still kicking tonight i may up it a bit.

Bump the temp a bit, they can handle bruises, scars and etc. It's when they get stress is what can be fatal for them.

based on my personal experience with armatus & blunt trauma, he should make it. just make sure that in the event tht he flips over, you're there to hold him the right way and push him back & for to get water through his gills. good luck bro, hope this guy pulls through for ya

i sure hope your right... I wont know for a few hours if he made it thru the day. I really doubt it though.
I hope he does not find the outlet to the drip system if he dies, i may go home to a flooded house and a dead armatus. :(

Lost 2 large payaras to head injury acted the same way as yours. DO NOT MOVE OUT of main tank. That was the kiss of death for mine. Also lost a armatus to a ray. The ray will eventually get the armatus during the night in the weakend state. Recommend dviding the tank or put the armatus in a mesh bait bag in the main tank to allow recovery
