Crap!!!! My armatus now

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Kinda funny everyone called me an idiot for saying they need a larger tank then most can provide.....

I too blame water. Rays may be OK at PH that's wayyy higher then found in thge wild but I think Characins are a little pickier.

NO payara are getting even remotely close to WC sizes. This means something isn't right.

i agree, but it does not explain the losses of scomb, tat's.

My armatus was only 15", i would think a 32" wide 6' tank would and should house him at this size atleast.

I almost wonder if mine was stung in the eye and that caused him to smash in to my filter. His eye swelled up like nothing i have ever seen. Even though the sheaths were still on my rays stingers, an eyeball is somewhat soft maybe it would not have taken the sheath off.

i only had problems w fang eating when my ph went up or down because i was always so overstocked

once i got the hang of my ph and had the drip at a steady rate, he did great for a long time

i deff think tanksize and ph are the biggest issues w these guys

i have my 2 little armatus now and have not had any problems yet. ive been keeping their tank understocked and kept a close eye on their ph

So what PH level do you keep your tank at?

my taps about the same as well but keep tank water between 6.8 to 6.5... of course there's the other parameters which are probably just as important. think Im lucky with the tap.

when payara bump tanks hard enough, the eye will swell if it stays alive long enuf to do so. have seen air bubbles develop. Sometimes it dissapates, sometimes it swells or clouds. Important thing is to control it before the infection spreads into the pupil. Usually if it swells, would indicate internal eye injury. have only had surface injuries heal with out blinding. Swelling usually ends with pirate eyes. I use a lot of salt as well... regularly. keep 100lb bags on hand.

I've also had Armatus eyes swell up stupid big after injuries. Couple of them. Could definetly mistake it for a sting.

You lacky bastids with your 7.1..... I'm at friggin 8.6-8.8.
