I'm pretty sure eating something dead has absolutely no effect on their health. Rotting? Not too sure but I mean do you really need to worry about having something rotting in your tank?
I still don't understand the mice feeding. A good quality staple food is so much more beneficial for your crayfish's health but whatever you decide to feed them is your choice. I just know I feed my pets the food that's going to benefit them the most.
I can't see there being much nutritional value to feeding mice whether they are dead or alive
and yes you are right for them it's a treat, in your own words.
