I orefer circle hooks. Use a circle hook appropriate to the size of the craw and your game. Dont use a weight unless you are in fast current.

oh okay i will keep that in mind

Rebel brand crayfish is the second best stream/creek bait there is. Behind golden panther matrins w/ a orange feathering....

Hooking through the tail as diagrammed in that image works, but I prefer through the body. You won't lose them as easily if something nibbles and doesn't take it completely. Most of the time fish hit crayfish with 10 seconds of it being in the water. Watch out :D

The reason for it to be hooked through the tail is because as it hits the water and you reel in then the fish even though if possibly dead it still looks like its swimming which attracts the fishes attention. if you hook through the body then it will just float there and you have to learn how to properly jig inorder for it to sometimes work.

Yeah. When fishing with craws I go for the reaction bites. It's fun. Especially when you get the monster hits.

how do hook through the body

Dont hook through the body, it doesnt stay on easier. You will crush the carapac and risking loosing it, not to mention, killing your bait. Besides a fish that just "nibbles" at your bait isnt big enough to fool with anyway.

Unless you are fishing barbless, it does stay on easier. One nibble can take the body away from the tail with the hook through the tail. Sharp hooks push right through and don't crush anything.

I used crawfish for a long time for bait and have always put the hook through the tail and not once have i lost it due to nibbling from fish. You want the other fish to notice the bait swimming this is what atches their eye and makes them go for the grab.
