I was sent a email a few days ago stating that a few wild caught BD were coming in :D

i was then informed that the prices would be 9000-10000 euros each

were do people get the mad prices from

i cant see local fishermen charging anything near that for wild caught BD

as far as i know the shipping cost are about the same as before the ban from Brazil so that wouldn't have changed

so the importers or the exporters are just being greedy

i paid £270 for my BD before the ban was enforced and that was from a shop

the price of a captive bred p14 is around the 2000-2500 euro mark

were are the MASSIVE price tags coming from for wild rays

2009 looks like wild rays will make someone a millionaire

For me 9,000 - 10,000 euros is definitely too high.

i know people in Asia have been paying the mad prices to get their breeding plans up and running

but lets be fair i cant see a normal hobbyist paying anywhere near that price

Just like anything else, if you have a demand you can raise the price. Once you reach the point that you can't sell them, then you back off a little on the price.

when you say back off a bit on the price do you mean slash them in half then drop another 2000 euros :D

Exporters in Brazil are not stupid and they know the prices these rays are selling for around the world so of course they will try and get top dollar while the demand is high and supply is still low due to poor catching conditions. Shipping prices are also alot higher then they were in 2005 but that difference is not enough to really cause price hike. Also have to consider someone has to put up there own money to buy these rays from exporter in Brazil and take HUGE RISKS with importing, DOA etc. So of course why would they do it if they are not going to make there profit? If it was easy then anyone would just buy and import there own rays.

there is a sensible mark up and one thats a joke

if what you are saying is true then if a fisherman in Brazil sells one BD he can give up work and retire which i find hard to believe

if the fisherman in Brazil even gets 1000 euros of the 10000 euro sale price he can live happy for 1-2years

exporters or importers are making a much bigger mark up than they want to admit to

its called taking advantage of a situation

:iagree:

Last time I checked importers and exporters dont do what they do for fun. They need to make a living too. There is NOTHING wrong with them charging however much they can get.

Its the BUYERS that set the price though. If no one bought them at that price then no one would sell them at that price. Obviously people are paying so I dont blame the seller.

I would be curious to know how much the fisherman are getting off their BDs. I doubt very much at all. I'm sure they (the actual fisherman) do not have access to the internet and have no idea how much that pretty leo with a few more spots is worth. Kind of sad, but if they did, I bet BD prices would be even higher.

We all know the fishermen are not making the huge profits as they don't source the rays to sellers/buyers. The only ones that can control the price is exporters and yes of course there being very greedy with prices. But it's called business they are all in it to make money or why take the risk. Do you know what exporters are charging for these rays at the moment? I wish it were a JOKE but it's very real. Last I heard recently fisherman get 25-50 dollars per ray and thats alot more money then they ever did for rays in past.
