Just so you know that I understand what/why you were saying that the price on a SW tank could very well justify a lot of money for a relatively small tank, this one's for you. :grinno:

Being an experienced hobbyist I tell others continuously, "you will never get that much for your tank" So I'm kinda stuck between letting it go cheap or sticking it out through this slump I'm having. I want to see if there is really anyone that would even consider spending $500.00 on a reef tank.
Here goes it:
The tank is an (all glass brand) 55 gallon tank and sits on a light oak stand. Both are in decent shape depending on your preference for coraline algae on the back glass or not. The tank is set up so the coraline is still alive and purple. It is not a drilled tank but has a Hang on the back(HOB) acrylic from manufacturer overflow to the sump. Returned with a mag5 pump through PVC with ball valves on each return to adjust flow.
My sump is custom (for my preference) and sits in a cabinet separate from the tank stand. Reason being I keep a deep sand bed(DSB) and grow macro algae(cheato) for low phosphates. 65watt flood 16hrs daily for growing the macro.
for all the fake sellers out there.....A saltwater tank is NOT a saltwater tank without a protein skimmer! mine is a bubble magus brand. It is rated for up to 125gallons and is 16months old. Set on the 55 it produces around 3/4 cup of skimate weekly. I am very happy with it.
The lighting is a hanging fixture with (4) 54watt HO T5's (1) Fiji purple actinic and (1)blue actinic set on timers that run 12 hours on/off.
I use 2 canister filters for Phosban(GFO) and carbon, but they are not for sale with the system. This should be considered before buying.
The occupants(livestock)
This is where it gets tricky to estimate a cost. In July I went on a trip over a weekend and when we returned the tank had crashed. Just from not having the AC on in the house the tank temp rose above 85 degrees and stayed there long enough to kill a Skooter Blenny, copepods, and rotifers. It also sent my corals into shock and with the spike in nitrites from the deaths in the tank, water changes did little to reverse the damage. Prior to the crash the estimated coral cost would have been $1600.00, now I'm just scratching my head. Most have died
alive but still in a mild state of shock
several sets of purple, red and maroon striped mushrooms.
4 bunches of green button polyps
a branch leather about 10" fully opened
1 16" gonipora with three branches on it
4 cuttings from a sister gonipora that went ill during the crash
a rather large hairy mushroom
a clean up crew consisting of scarlet and blue legged hermits
bumble bee snails there's other hitch hikers snails as well.
a not Christmas tree(similar) piece who's occupant is a beautiful orange critter

The live rock is awesome!
estimate 40lbs
Most pieces are covered 80% with purple coraline algae.
The larger pieces were bought 5 years ago from a guy who had brought them into the states after the live rock bans from Haiti. "Haitian leaf rock"
Other pieces include Marshall Island and Tonga branch as well.
The remaining being small to medium size fiji rock.

IMO you dont need the tank than!
A serious buyer wouldnt even ask because of the deal, but would want to look at it in person.

In this case, it's all the extras, not the tank that are worth the $. Not in my budget right now, but $500 is actually a very low price if the corals are salvageable, and if not, it's still worth about $400 for the lighting, the sump, the mag 5 pump, the tank, stand, protein skimmer and live rock.

the part in red is what I found amusing since I had a snake that could eat a small goat and it could certainly eat a small rat. I wonder where this person looks stuff up....
 
yeah That would have to be a HUGE rat.
 
That Fish Place has an anacoda on display that was a resuce. It's tail is chewed off by a rat. This snake is at least 10' long probably longer, but I can't remember exactly. Apparently if the snake is hungry and the rat is....

I like the owners approach to tire kickers, that must really suck to have come back to that crash.

I kept reading and reading thinking that there HAD to be more, but no; $100 for a 2.5 gallon tank. :ROFL::thumbsup:
