Crazy outdoor idea for rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My fiance and I have been planning this for a while now.
There is no way we are going to be able to fit all of our rays indoors which I assume is the problem you and Ash have as well lol.

We are looking into moving to South Carolina where we would not have to worry about heating the greenhouse so much. We won't have a beach inside of it but we plan on having very green grass as a soft alternative lol.

It will be filtered completely with plants and aquaponics (completely inspired by Severum1 and a good friend of mine, Jack :)).

Matt if you want, I have some designs drawn up that we can chat about sometime.
Perhaps we could go in on this venture together?

move south....

Hopefully you've won the lottery recently
:)

You just might be surprised at how thrifty and inventive someone can get when it comes to their passions and dreams. :naughty:

That would be AWESOME. If I can get more of the plans down, I think I might be able to cut back on hiring outside help. So, what IM program do I need to get? :naughty:

Matt.. you should email me your threads if you want me to chime in ;)

I have 2 ideas about this type of set-ups that have been running through my feeble little mind for a while now..

A climate controlled gazebo... slate/tile pond (a'la asia) .. heated coils underneath.. hexagonal bench seating surround the entire unit.. large glass windows all around.. retractable skylights.. solar panels.. tropical vegetation growing in plant beds behind the bench seating.. community of exotic finches/keets.. anoles and geckos.. frogs and turtle.. think.. mini-bio-dome.

WOW! I didn't even think of the possibilities there! I could probably keep some other forms of life in there as well! Since I'm taking the time to heat it anyway, a little addition of a few small herps or amphibians could be awesome! I'd have to do some serious research first, but that is an awesome diea.

#2

A moat that travels through the foundation of your house.. allowing the stingrays to migrate from inside to outside.. shade to light.. warm basking areas on a shallow sandy beach to a deep pond inside the house..filter and heat from the inside of the house.. have a 'sliding door' sealing mechanism so that you can drain the outside area in the winter months to prevent heat loss..

I think you can take it from their Matt :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

I've made a crude drawing to help illustrate an idea I'm having. On the edge of the pond, possibly in the back by the filters, I could keep corraled breeding pairs of convicts (up to maybe 30+ pairs, each pair with their own flower pot). The screen or plastic grate would have to be big enough for the fry to swim through, but small enough to keep the adults safe from the rays. To ensure that the rays don't just suck them through the grating, it might require two layers, spaced several CM apart.

What do you think?
