Crazy outdoor idea for rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
having these mesh containment/release areas with varieties of live foods is a great idea.. cichlids, livebeares, crustaceans, snails.. could work with them all..

also an FYI I found a snap-togethor climate controlled greenhouse for around $2k.. if I remember it was like 20'x8'.. came with auto-retracting 'moonroofs' that were connected to digital temp control.. could do heated coils in the cement foundation, and also design your pools into the foundation.. then once the greenhouse is in place, you can build much more from the ground up (racks of tanks on the central filtration system for housing newborn rays.. etc)

Matt, I would drop the convicts and go with Tilapia.
They are much more prolific, making more than triple the amount of babies in less time.
There are a few species of Oreochromis out there but Oreochromis Mossambicus seems to do best. I know a guy if you are interested in any.

My fiance and I have been planning this for a while now.
There is no way we are going to be able to fit all of our rays indoors which I assume is the problem you and Ash have as well lol.

We are looking into moving to South Carolina where we would not have to worry about heating the greenhouse so much. We won't have a beach inside of it but we plan on having very green grass as a soft alternative lol.

It will be filtered completely with plants and aquaponics (completely inspired by Severum1 and a good friend of mine, Jack :)).

Matt if you want, I have some designs drawn up that we can chat about sometime.
Perhaps we could go in on this venture together?

post it up...

miles there was a guy buy me on the mainline who tried to have indoor out door koi pond... cost about 70k and there was alot of problems...

Indoor/outdoor does not sound safe. Things could get in lol.

As soon as my sketches are all done Nic I will be sure to.

I've actually had the idea to let them come in to my livingroom via a passage. The cover for the "tank" so to speak would be acrylic tiles for that part of the floor.

I just don't know how the logistics of that would work out.

wow sounds like some great ideas i really love the gazebo idea. i was thinking a half room pond inside but now that has all changed to that gazebo lol gl with whatever you decide and keep us posted.
