Although I realise this is a different species, I suspect you risk losing your pike if you try and house it with anything too large! There are many instances of this kind of thing happening if you google it.
???

It's much safer to house a predator with tankmates that is too large to be swallow than house it with smaller bite-sized fishes. There is a rule in general: Any fish that fits in the mouth will become lunch.

Damn cant find any pictures, basically because of their teeth if a pike bites onto something just the right size it cant spit it out and will choke/suffocate

And your point is?

Had a 10" creek chub swallowed a 7" northern pike fingerling.
Yeah i have about a 19 inch LMB in a pond and chubs are his main diet, they are really easy to catch in the small creeks of my neiborhood. the biggest weve ever caught was about 10 inches.

Some predators are so greedy they cant be housed with anything! European perch are another example...

False. If they can't swallow it, perch leave tankmates alone, same goes for pickerel. You're going to tell me a 15" pike or perch is going to try and swallow a massive bodies 24" koi? If the fish is slender bodied and slightly smaller in both length and width than the predator it might try (and fail), but to imply that they can't be kept with anything for this reason is misleading and wrong. In rivers that contain both species, i always see yellow perch school not only with each other but similar sized chub, fallfish etc and have successfully kept them together in aquaria - European perch would be no different with things like European chub, dace, rudd etc.

I also recently had a 2.5" central mudminnow die choking on a 2" fathead minnow tankmate, does this mean mudminnows can't be kept with other fish?
