I used to live right behind this LFS that barely had any customers. I remember stopping in to see the limited and messy selection they had. Since I moved, I still pass by this place as it's located on the street I commute daily. It's ALWAYS empty. There's no cars ever parked in front of the store.
So last month I decided to drop by with my gf. The store is filthy. Water everywhere on the floor. Tanks got so much algae and they're so scratched up that I could not see the fish. The price was ridiculously high for fish n dry food. We were the only customers (big surprise). After a few min of looking around, we bolted out the door while the owner was still sitting on his counter fixing his watch.
I wonder how this LFS can stay in business after 13++ yrs? I did not exaggerate one bit when I say the store is always empty. Anyone have any theories or personal experience with local business like this? It doesn't have to be a LFS.
Im planning to come back to the store and snap a few pics for u guys. I'll also disclose the name and location of this LFS so SoCal MFKers can attest to what was said or check it out.

Maybe they smuggle drugs in fish? Yeah. They make goldfish swallow tiny bags and cross the Mexico border.

I'd advise you don't take pics. What if the owner sees you and hunts you down because you know too much? And before he tucks you in for the long nap you could be as kind enough to tell him goldfish don't have stomachs.

Maybe the owners are actually mutant human fish themselves and just grow feeders for themselves and like the taste of algae because their taste buds are worn from years of smoking cigs?

Ahhh I've been watching too many movies again.

We have a restaurant not far from my house that exists since 20 years. There are never any guests...It´s pretty much used to wash some money for yakuza. We call it the "headshot bar" ;)

Take some pictures and post them up....words just wont do on this one.Go stealth mode if you have to.

There are two sides to every story. Instead of wondering and speculating, why not just ask the guy behind the counter? Express concern for the conditions. Maybe there is something going on you aren't aware of or don't need to be aware of.

If the store has been in this condition for 13 years then there must be quite a few sides to the story...There is a small store here that, while always clean and well kept,I've always wondered how its managed to stay open all these years while bigger and much better stores here have closed down.

Bigger and better stores usually have higher rent, staff costs and other expenses than hole-in-the-wall, family-run places.

Is this place fish only or do they sell puppies and other animals?

Matt
