I have had them for about 3 months. Started off with 6 and lost a few in the first couple of days.. Took the smaller female out when they paired up about a month ago. . Think they will be breeding soon. Keeping my fingers crossed. Are these altas or do they have a different name? Can't get a good pic of the male but he is stunning and definately interested in breeding. Female is swollen and tube looks ready to go/

Those look like my alta's. Very nice female. Keep us updated on the expected spawning! I'm hoping my pair will breed once I get them set up on their own.

Think they laid about a week ago. Noticed she wasn't as fat and her tube was still down. Couldn't see any fry or defending going on so asssumed they weren't successful in their union. Went to feed them this morning and there was a small cloud of fry in the cave. Look to be about 60 to 70 free swimming baby pikes. Both parents are defending them. Woo Woo. Pics to come if they are still alive by Friday. Have these been bred by anyone before as I can't get too much info on them?

Congratulations on the Crenicichla spawn indeed!!!!! I can’t wait to see the pictures!

Score!!!! Spawning Crenis is the BOMB!!!! Definitely get pictures!! Thats way too awesome! Makes me uber excited actually!

Yes, a lot of the Saxatilis pikes have been spawned in captivity. Pretty sure alta has been.
