Crenicichla make excellent parents!!! They normally aren't stupid like uaru or other SA cichlids that eat their eggs/young. You can almost keep them with them till full term, about three weeks. Only prob. is that if some of the juv. grow faster than others they may prey on each other.

I have two Saxatilis males, which look similar to your Alta's.
But Altas are no Saxs?

These are my my first pike cichlids so I am going to try and raise them all. I bought them as altas but can probably get the location they came from if there is any doubt to their identification or if anyone knows more would appreciate the input. .
