Quick pics. I am going to hopefully get a friend over that knows which end of a camera to hold but if you look closely you should be able to see the fry. Have to up-date the number to over a hundred as there are more than I thought and they are becoming more visible.
Nothing special. Well fed, high protein, frequent large water changes, 4 times a week and got lucky on the pair liking each other. Gave them thir own 80 gallon tank when they started to pair up and look conditioned.
Fry are doing well. I scared the parents yesterday and thought they were eating them but the female was just moving them to a hiding place. Going to remove half in a few days just in case. I tried to move a rock for cleaning and the male attacked me. He tried to bite the hand that feeds him.
I am not the first to breed these? Moved the parents yesterday. Probably screwing up a nice set-up by doing so but don't trust them. Hopefully they stay mated long term and the male doesn't take her out.
I wouldn't say you are the first, that being said, I don't know that they are Alta in the first place, the shoulder spot is too low IMHO Either way, getting a solid Sax pike pair bond isn't always easy.
I hope that the pair bond isn't broken, that would suck, a better way to do it would be to siphon some of the fry off, not all of them though. When I was working with Sveni, they were quite good parents and never needed to have any help raising fry. Besides, what do you plan on doing with a whole spawn of pike fry? Unless of course you can ship or know a store/wholesaler that will take em all
