crenicichla celidochilus info please

I was wondering if anyone had any other pics then the quick ones I found on google and in general other information about this pike species I found the other night. Have they been available in the hobby? Cost? I thought they looked pretty cool and are a nice change from some of the other rare pikes out there that I see regularly these days on the boards. Get in line bro....I've been wanting those pikes for a LONG TIME...haha...as have MTN Pike and a few other members. They are probably my fav. of the pikes. They are so unique, I LOVE the splotch on the jaw...just an all around attractive pike. They were imported into Canada a couple of months ago, but the guy wouldn't ship them back in...really sucked. As of right now, Rapps is trying to find me some along with a few other choice fish.... Aside from that, your best bet is to sit back and relax. Already asked several importers to look for them for me...so far Rapps is the only one (in the United States) that has/can get them. When he got the Crenicichla punctatus I was hopin he would bring in celidochilus as well, since they are from the general same area.... Uruguay.

Peanut and other pike lovers, not to derail but in my quest for new pike pics and info the other night I stumbled upon a gorgeous pic of a wild crenicichla that was seen on one of Below Waters collecting trips and felt compelled to post it Enjoy ~Trent

I have since found that my lents are likely from the same collection area as that in the above picture. Needless to say I am very psyched!!

Back on topic, I think that C. celidochilus are rare in the wild ( at least in the areas collected so far). BTW, if they act anything like their cousins C. minuano or C. missioneria you are going to have problems keeping them together. Both of those species are complete psychos that hunt each other down and kill each other. Maybe the would be a little calmer in lower temps ( 68-70 degrees) but at 74-76 they were crazy. This only based on a handful of specimens, but I am willing to bet that these are not isolated experiences.

That was my initial thought as well, the coloration and patternin doesn't really look too much like a lenticulata. Almost every adult lent. i've seen has at least SOME spangling on the face still. I really am curious how your lents. are going to turn out though Scat!!

Unfortunately you are dead on in both aspects. They are pretty elusive, and probably difficult to catch as it appears a lot of importers are having difficulty catching them. Spencer Jack got some in Canada, but he wasn't really all that willin to have them imported.... He DID confirm the aggression thing though..as his juvs. pretty much annialated each other. So keepin them as a group or as a pair might end up being a bit difficult. The lower temps thing is definately a good idea!! Patience is all we have to go on right now....eventually they will come in.
