But I thought pike don't reproduce in captivity...don't know for sure. Sorry, I'm a pike amateur.
Pike do form breeding pairs and reproduce in captivity its just that high Conspecific aggression makes them difficult to breed also certain pikes demand certain water params like dwarfs they really like acidic water which can also play a large role in breeding pikes

To me to buy a extremely rare $250 fish and only get one when you have a chance to get a pair and possible bred them makes no sense. If you can afford one, you can afford two. Ken

Ed is that the same fish or both? Dorsal spot suggest female. May just be a juvinal coloration as I have not seen that before. Ken

Hey Ken,
same fish, the theoretical female. I separated them because she doesn't seem to enjoy the theoretical males company. When the saxatilis are old enough to not get eaten, I'll try combining them all together and hope for the best. The male also has a small smount of spotting in the dorsal but not like the female.

I vented them when we divided them up so you should have a pair. Very hard to keep two together with no other fish. You can always crowd them with you Gymnos like Felipe does. Ken

Cool, thanks for the info guys. I am getting a few of these and just wanted to see who else had them in case I need help.
Thanks again,
--Brian

Hey ALL ~ we have one remaining Celido, a superb female currently in her Winter dress. Our local friend 'fastfish' has 2 pair doing great in a 125. All fish came from Ken/FishFarmUSA from Uruguay via collecting with Felipe Cantera/Aqvaterra. Felipe and Vin Kutty are the only people to breed the 'lip-spots' yet. We'll certainly be trying here in Colorado, I'm hoping to have some more this year....

Good luck with yours Brian!

What size is your female Ed? I think the 'lacustris group' dorsal spot vanishes with age on the celidochilus. Ours had none at 3.5" in December 2007.

Our female is the centerpiece of our Pike collection - we've been posting a running thread on growth progression on this Forum, will update with more photos this Spring!

John, You are just going to have to go down with us in Nov 09, we plan on two full days at the ranch going for celidos. The Rio Cuareim has 5 species of pikes, it's amazing. Ken
