Crenicichla lenticulata

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah. There is a LFS that has shiners for $1.15 a dozen. Might go that route. My problem is keeping them alive. I hate adding feeders and then having them die off and spiking the ammonia in the tank. Acclimating them is a bugger. Seems no matter what you do there is always a large group that die off. :( Really don't want to go with comets if I can help it though! POO ON THEM!!!

I am hoping that he decides to start eating. Might move the tank and set it up better, get the permanant residents and start decorating. Maybe then he'll settle in. I would shore hate to loose him...:(

I'd stay on top of the water changes and do large, daily changes. I'd also bump the temp up to 82+. It wouldn't hurt to try some of the anti-parasite meds for intestinal/internal problems. General Cure by Aquarium Pharm is a great one and contains a combination of metronidazole and praziquantel. 2 of the best meds for internal bugs. It's not cheap, especially when treating a 125 gallon tank but again, it's cheaper than replacing the fish.

I think that adding some decor would be helpful as well so the fish has some security.

I always use shiners but I keep a quarantine setup and treat with broad spectrum parasitic med. I am also a huge fan of Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. Any die off occurs within the first few days. Then I just pump them full of food and feed at my leisure after a couple of weeks. Usually the die off is from them not being fed and poor water conditions. I get the large ones 2.5-3 inchers. Takes fewer but cost more.
Definitely don't want to lose him, especially if one of the nicer variants:)

Just an update, moved the 125gal inside. Completely redid it, adding a nice piece of driftwood, as well as a bunch of rocks, mainly to HOLD DOWN the driftwood. It actually turned out MUCH better than I originally thought it would. LOVE IT!! Anyway, after putting them all back in, the lent has staked his claim under the driftwood with the BGK. He is showing much better colors, and is definately more active. Looks like he is quite hungery as well. Getting feeders tomorrow. Hopefully I can turn this guy around. He looks awesome!!! Definately need to get him a female!! :D Dedicate this tank to just them! I wish you guys could come visit so you could see. Its that awesome! :D

Great to here, now just get him fed. If he is staking a territory it shows he has some spunk and is feeling more comfortable.
Hope you have better luck finding a female Lent than I have at finding a male Trom.

Finding them is only part of the problem, being able to get them is the other part.

BTW...the acutes are showing some of their best colors ever. Maybe its the black background, dunno. But they are HOTT!!

Well, between the snooks, acutirostris, and the lent. there are only four goldfish left from two dozen. LoL! The first one the lent nailed all that was left of it was the tail. Hit that bugga HARD!! This is the first time the snooks or the acutes have ever had live foods too, so they are slowly starting to learn. Its crazy watching the snooks tag team them!! OY!

Snapped a few quick ones of him tonight! Literally some quick ones! He WOULD NOT hold still!!! Constant swimming!! Bugger to photograph!! Check out how much larger than the smallest acute he is!! I really need to seperate them asap!! :nilly: So far no aggression though! WHEW!

I don't like the shot where he is arching his back, but it shows the colors in the dorsal so I included it. :)
