Crenicichla Monicae/ Crencichla sp. "Troucha Trout"

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We need more hobbyist like you Kolt.

I've toned down my Crenicichla collection to just three species with two of them being dwarves. Good to see you're still picking up the big lugubris species.

Thanks bro but I'm nothing special. As a matter of fact you deserve way more credit then I as far as being a dedicated hobbyist goes. Some of your comm's are truly inspired and your plant work is definitely something to envy, never minding your aquascaping skills and pics.

Nothing wrong with focusing or going smaller. It takes no less dedication just shows that your open to new things and are always learning which is what being a great fishkeeper really is. With that said I'm going to digress cause I'm sounding all gushy to the point I'm making myself sick. lol

Since my accident my life has been turned upside down but it finally looks like stuff is settling and I can start putting things right. One of the things I want to do is start revamping how I keep fish. I try a lot of crazy comm's where every fish was intended as a centerpiece. I was about to go on a rant but perhaps it might be better if I create a thread where I could share my plans and ask others what they plan to do in the coming future with the hobby.

Thank you kind sir. I'm looking forward to your thread.

I've been thinking down to 4 tanks and will thin further down to three since I'm having a baby coming in September. I've decided to go all out to acquire some rare finds to set me straight for the next few years...hopefully. I still impulse buy way too much. I'd love to discuss future plans on the thread you have in mind.

Lastly, thanks for the compliments...but trust me, I'm a novice compared to you, Ryan Smith, Peathenster, unstoppable jay, etc... Lots of great folks on this board.

Congratz on the incoming stork delivery!! Definitely going to have to downsize for awhile but after a couple of years you'll have free extra hands to help with the fish so you can go nuts tanking up the house. ;) Can't wait to see the new future MFK'er. I tried the same thing to quell my impulse buying but low and behold fish that hadn't been available in years started popping up. Prime example Tiger Scats which I wanted since almost as long as I've been here suddenly showed up. I wish you better luck then I had.

No problem bro, and trust me at very least we're equals because I'm a novice as well. Lets leave it at that, we've got room for improvement but are off to a good start. As for Peathenster, JayD and Ryan Smith they definitely deserve their props. I've got nuthin on them. Honestly the list of names that have inspired me is long and the only reason I don't list them all besides the length is I know I'd accidentally miss someone and I don't want to offend.

Agreed. Thank you Kolt!

Great fish. It took me second to remember where I last saw those pictures. How are they doing?
Thanks Charney! It's funny I was just thinking about updating on the Pike FB page. Helluva think I hadn't dealt with any disease in quite awhile(knock on wood) and then I had the outbreak of ICH with the the Macro's when they arrived and now with these guys. The Macro's finally got over it but aren't eating or if they are it's always when I'm not looking. I leave feeders in the tank and they are going little by little but I recently caught my 3 inch Driftwood cats eating the fish intended for the 5 inch Macro's.

The Monicae developed the ICH at least 2 weeks after arrival with the male having it the worst. After 10 days the females recovered but the male still has it so I have to continue treatment. Despite the ICH he's the current boss of the tank and may even be bonded to one of the females. They patrol together this includes chasing the other female a little. They share a hide together and the females belly gets a pink hue off an on. How ever other then that I haven't seen any other actions to be sure they're bonded or not.

Thanks Rob, II'm keeping my fingers crossed on the bonding. I already have dreams of line breeding to get more spots. lol How's things with the Johanna going? And what about the Zebrina any indication of sex or if you lucked out and got a pair?
