Crenicichla Notophthalmus have bred for me

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice! Congrats on the the new spawn. How are the first batch looking now? They must be getting pretty big.

Thanks. They are growing fast. Its amazing, how aggressive they are towards each other. Even at this size. I'll try to get some pics of both batches tonight

I got a few of these from you and I just want to let you know that they're doing really well. They're starting to fill out a bit more now and they're very outgoing and active. I have them in a 55 with some Crenicara punctulatum and so far they make great tankmates. I'm sure if they pair off and spawn I'll have to separate them.

Its been awhile . But they have spawned again. I saw mom bringing the fry out of her cave this morning. They ate newly hatched brine shrimp right away. Hopefully they'll all make it.

Glad to hear they're still spawning for you. I have a male and female from the ones I got from you. They're doing well and are about a year old now I guess. Time to drop the pH/hardness and see if I can get some fry, too. :D

Do they breed in the clay tube you showed in your first set of pictures? If so, do you know where they sell those? I have some round pleco caves that the pikes hide in but I don't think they'd be big enough for both fish to get in and spawn.

Thanks. I'm glad you at least got a pair. Its actually a PVC pipe. They did mate in it once in the beginning. Now the females prefers a piece of wood to spawn in. One piece forms a nice cave under it. How big is your pair now?

They're not very big. The male is maybe 4" and the female just slightly smaller. She was a lot smaller for a long time but in the past six months has caught up. I've read online that the males can reach up to 6" but I don't think he's going to get much larger. How big are their parents?

The male was about 4 inches when I got him. My male has gotten huge. He's is easily over 5 inches. He's twice the girth of the female. She hasn't grown much if any.
