Crenicichla sp. ‘Itapamirin’ ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For the most part, pairs get along better. They can turn on each other in a moments notice though, so you gotta watch it. Most of the time though, once you have a bonded pair, they stay that way!! ;) They just look much better when cruising the tank as a pair, just looks right.

ah ok

I have a nice pair of tapajos red pikes that`s been together for about 1 1/2 years. They`re definately a compatible pair. And like Peanut eluded to I know things can change. The most stressful time would be when & if they try to breed. That`s normally when the problems arise. From one partner being ready & the other not. Things of that nature. I was lucky, I got my male from Jeff & my female from Ken Davis (fishfarm). Three fish from Jeff & four from Ken, & THEY chose each other, not me. That`s why I bought 4 of these sp. itapamirin, to better my chances of getting a pair. Now I`m kicking myself for not getting that last large specimen from Jeff. Anyways, later.......Keith

keith-let's see those itapamrin as soonas you can post something. And how about a pic of your TR pair-love to see the colors on a pair. G

Congrats on gettin in on that order Keith, know not many people were able to get some of them they sold so fast. You either had to know in advance that they were comin in, or get them RIGHT away. Only downside is that there was NO quarantine time....which means they came right to Jeff and then right back outa again...a big way to put stress on the fish. Hopefully they will transition well to the tank. Definately wanna see some pictures! :D Picture savy or not, we wanna see them! :D

Definately agree with what you said about your TR pair. When the males want to breed and the females won't put out, it does make them rather grumpy...haha.

Do you see any distinguishing sexual features? I talked to Jeff and he said that NONE of these pikes had a dorsal spot as female's reportedly have.

Come to think of it, when Oliver brought in the tigrina he claims there were absolutely no females...

I someone in Brazil holding out on us?

Either that or they weren't large enough to sex just yet. Could be like Crenicichla celidochilus, both sex's have the dorsal spot until they reach a certain age and then they become distinguishable. I think Oliver DID get in some females though, he just didn't offer them up for sale, as I was gonna getta male and female....before he sold them all...lol. It doesn't make much sense why they would just import males though, as the females are generally more attractive. Perhaps the importers just suck at catching both genders...lol.

Would they have the dorsal spot from a very small size? Would be a shame if all were males, but still a nice pike-up. :D Yeah, I managed to get in... but am now at capacity.
