Treat? Usually that designation is reserved for fatty or thiaminase-ridden foods like shrimp. Crickets are high in protein and low in fat. I'd have no problem recommending them as a staple if gutloaded.
What kind of shrimp is thiaminase ridden ? I feed krill as a staple to my bichirs I thought it was lean healthy good stuff for them.

I did not know of that distinction. Thank you. What beetle do superworms become?

Morios or something....zophobas morio(just looked it up).Superworm beetle

Tenebrio Molitor.....Tenebrio Molitor(I was right this time, lol).Mealworm/darkling beetle

The "giant mealworms" are superworms just with the hormone not to change. But if sold as superworms then their the non-hormoned ones. :)

There are lists on the web of critters with thiaminase. I don't think krill has it, but market shrimp does.

Interesting. Ill look in to that , thanks

Packer how did the superworm breeding go. Was it much more economical (also considering time to breed)? I was thinking about this, I feed them to all my fish, snapper, and I use them as bait (work great by the way). I can get a pack of 25-30 for $3.75 around here but they don't last long.

That's mealworms though, worked great but I think now that my cats got into it because a few got lose.

Superworms worked better really. Just keep them warm, takes about the same time a fry would get to 2 inches. Bout 3 months. You would save money yes, but you would need 200-300 superworms to start with. It's something you just do on the side.
