Cricket Feeders

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I feed crickets every once in awhile. I also feed whatever I can find outside. Worms from the garden is always good. I feed mealworms too.

Cool thanks to everybody for the advice, I currently own several Emperor scorps and a Giant Vietnamese pede, and i already have crickets on hand so i was wishing that i could use them instead of buying other foods lol. But the one thing with cricket colonies is they smell horrible! :yuck: Thanks again

That they do. When I eventually get back into reptiles that require live food, I'm trying roaches. I HATE keeping crickets

I'm the first poster, never smelled for me.

Crickets are alright, but try superworms... they have the protein of 15-20 crickets in one worm. Much more nutritious for the price. Also more filling to larger predators IME. They look like giant mealworms. They'll float for a bit, but will sink if you give 'em a tap.

I read somewhere that super worms are just mealworms treated with a hormone to prevent pupation. A hormone which I don't think fish should be eating. Aren't waxworms pretty big and pretty much the same? Most grubs like these are pretty fatty, and do qualify as 'treat' foods. Earthworms are an amazing food that can be fed regularly to many fish, but not to certain types of catfish. Watch for pesticides when gathering earthworms.

Superworms aren't treated with hormones. Their a totally diff species to the mealworms. Giant mealworms are treated with a hormone though so they don't pupate.

So mealworms and superworms are okay for fish. I was breeding superworms for awhile, all of the fish loved them.

I did not know of that distinction. Thank you. What beetle do superworms become?

Hello all, seeing as many or most fish eat invertebrates in the wild, has anybody been successful or prefer to feed their fish crickets or for that matter roaches? I am planning on getting some Senegal Bichirs and wonder if they would eat crickets of a decent size or shy away? i know they like to float near the surface when they are young for insects is why i ask. thanks!
My bichirs senegals , delhezi's endli's absolutely love crickets :headbang2
