Criticize the rockwork for my planted tank!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think you are close with your last layout. You may try eliminatintg some of the rocks though this will give you more area for the carpet plant cover and will add depth to your tank.

In the pic below I eliminated rocks "A" & "C" and moved "B" into "C" space and "D" into "A" space.

This one of the fun parts, but make sure you take pics and don't rely on memory.

Good luck :)

Gotta love Photoshop, do the work without actually doing the work :D

good stuff bderick! you definately have good eyes for layout, and quick pshop skills! i really like the way that looks, but i also really like rock "A". any ideas of how to keep that rock and work it into the design?

Yes leaving rock "A" will be fine I would rotate it slightly so that it has a corner sitting behind the rock to the left of it. I would still eliminate the rocks that "B" and "D" and leave the space in that area.

One thing, if you get a basic layout in mind you can keep rotating the rocks until you find what's best. Also you may want to use some plastic plants to give you an idea of what you tank will look like once you add your live plants.

Great idea, having the plants in there is going to change the whole look of the layout, what looks great with just rocks may not look so great once the plants are in.

Personally I don't like the removed rocks, or the closely packed rocks in any of the later designs. These will be complete dead areas where no plants grow. If you are going to use these large rocks I'd recommend utilizing their strength, a physical barrier.

Stupid stones!! You call yourselves rocks!!! You just sit there in your gravel all day and do nothing!! You could at least help j with the rent, or take out the trash for God's sake!!!!!!! You, over there on the left! You're pathetic! You've got to be the most odd shaped rock I've ever seen!!!

How was that j? Let me know how they respond to my criticism!!

J/K bro! That is one sweet tank! I like the way Brian photoshopped that last pic.

i liked your first try and the last one by bderick best with "rock A" moved to a corner. i got to give it to you, you are putting a lot of effort into creating a beautiful aquascape. i really like your "unnatural tank" also so this will be a nice addition to the room. kind of yin/yang.

what are you using as a black background?
