Personally I don't like the removed rocks, or the closely packed rocks in any of the later designs. These will be complete dead areas where no plants grow. If you are going to use these large rocks I'd recommend utilizing their strength, a physical barrier.

ill keep that in mind. so when you say barrier, you mean between the background and ground cover? so they dont start growing into each other?

Stupid stones!! You call yourselves rocks!!! You just sit there in your gravel all day and do nothing!! You could at least help j with the rent, or take out the trash for God's sake!!!!!!! You, over there on the left! You're pathetic! You've got to be the most odd shaped rock I've ever seen!!!

How was that j? Let me know how they respond to my criticism!!

J/K bro! That is one sweet tank! I like the way Brian photoshopped that last pic.

that was great man, thx! yeah i like the pshop version too. ill see what else i come up with

i liked your first try and the last one by bderick best with "rock A" moved to a corner. i got to give it to you, you are putting a lot of effort into creating a beautiful aquascape. i really like your "unnatural tank" also so this will be a nice addition to the room. kind of yin/yang.

what are you using as a black background?

thx for the words! just doing the best i can :) the tank is acrylic with a black back, so its just part of the tank

i like the second layout you had but i think i would eliminate 2 or 3 of the smaller rocks but i can wait to see how this comes out been thinking of doing this myself on a slightly small scale i really want to do a tree on top af a hill with a few smaller rocks as the hill

With blyxa and HC, you can live without any physical barriers and just let them grow against each other naturally.

Exactly.

None of my tanks are ever finished. J, like the open center look best. With correct placement it adds depth to tank, drawing eye to a vanishing point.

the last lay out is by far the best. just play with the rocks a little to get it perfect.
imo all the other lay outs look far to un natural and create to much of a central focal point. the last one looks great especially the way the rocks curve towards the back, seems to give the tank more depth. good luck man keep us updated.

Good planted tanks take time, and patience, throwing stuff together usually ends in a poor looking tank.

yup, it sure feels like im going in circles. BUT, i think i may be on to something now, i promise!!! ;) how's this look? i think its more "to scale" for the tank and the low growing plants i want. a little more towards the side of iwagumi. what you think?

ignore the bald spot, i ran out of substrate. the whole substate will be much higher when finished
