thanks zoodiver do u know the min size tank for them and best size so if i get one some how. thanks for the pic to i just love crocs

I started him in a 90 gallon. I'd say no premade tank will be big enough for an adult. They get into the 5 foot range. I'd say a full room or large enclosure is best.

caimen are bred now for pets and only get to about 3 feet. they can be obtained for around $250-350. fl here requires a permit to own check out

Length depends on what species you buy.

I've found a lot of "breeders" saying they only get 3' long, however most people I have talked to, state more in the 4-5' range, depending on sex.

Personally, I don't think they are good pets, unless you really know what you are getting into. They are very aggressive creatures, very strong, and very fast. Not trying to convince anyone out of it, but theses are things someone has to take into account.

I'm just biased, as I am sick of seeing/hearing about people, who release these things into the wild, because when they get larger, they are more then the person can handle.

Agreed. You have to know what you are doing with them. It's a skill I've worked on for years. I've only had one close call with an adult croc. Got close enough to hit my shoe lace. Quite the reality check for me.

About the size, they will very somewhat. It's like a fish. Some will say "Oh yeah, only 3 feet" but it's because they aren't kept correctly. It's like putting a gar in a 29 gallon tank. Sure it stops growing....but look at why. Poor environment.

underfeeding, overstressing, yadda yadda. It all effects the growth and overall health of a croc. Now, seeing what some of the people on this site have for enclosures, sure, having a captive croc is doable. 10x10 pool, you're all set.

Now, in saying all this, I keep a Savanah Monitor, which will grow to about 5ft long. Being a monitor, it is semi-aggressive (not as much as a croc), but I researched it heavily before my purchase. This is part of the reason why I picked a Savanah, and not another species. They tend to be far more laid back.

Yeah, but even at 5', it's a lot more managable than a 13' alligator. Most likely less expensive to feed as well.
