I've heard Orinocos get as big as salties, and eat 6ft caiman like M&Ms.

Orinoco crocs are historicaly the second largest croc (second to Indo-Pacifics). But still both reach 23' for a good size adult. Let me tell you from first hand experience, they're nothing for amatures to mess with. Even at 12', that male could have taken me down like popcorn and kept looking for more. They are every bit as agile as a large cat, lightning fast in the jaw/head movement and can run like you'd never expect something that size to move.

There are approx 250-300 breeding adults left in the wild. There are four major breeding farms in Ven and scattered around Northern South America. The male / female pair I worked with is the only breeding pair outside of South America. Working with them was amazing. I learned so much and came away with such a great respect and awe of these guys. Plus I got to be known as the guy who had back to back successfull breeding of such a rare species. :headbang2

I watched a guy on the Discovery channel moving a regular American Crocodile (about 4' long) with 3 other guys. Then it got loose bit his arm went into a death roll and turned his arm into limp noodle and broke it in 12 different place. I believe you when you say the 12' Croc could've destroyed you.

I think the fine is only a few hundred dollars. I have a small american alligator who is about 16 inches. Hes in a 180 gallon tank with a constant supply of goldfish. This is probally the coolsent animal i've ever owned. He will bite only someone is dumb enough to put thier fingers infront of his face. If your thinking about getting an alligator DO IT!

If you live in Cali, I have seen baby American Alligators in pet stores in S. Oregon for $130, Medford to be exact. A short drive from where I am in N Cali. You could easily drive there and back in one day.

Remember, the best way to smuggle crocodilians is shoved down the front of your pants.

Seiously though, they are a lot of effort and if they are illegal where you live you really should not get them.
