cross breeding.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i think most if not all the potamotrygon rays would cross breed if the conditions were right.

i think we need to watch it abit though or we will be left with no true specie`s just aload of cross breeds.

Not that I would intentionally cross breed any species but I was just wondering. My two rays seem to love eachother and barely leave eachothers side and they are male/female. They arnt sexually mature anyways.

Very cute story, and yes this has been done before. Although I have heard of this on 2 separate occasions, not sure the odds of it happening for you.

It can happen, and hybrids do have thier place in the aquarium world.... however.... I think it is our reponsibilities as ray owners to label the rays just that.... hybrids, this way we can keep gene pools clean

to many mutts around

every other ray you see is SP this or that

This thread is funny. Cross breeding is happening in the WILD...TOO!

I personally have a wild SP. Look at aquascapes "going to the jungle" thread, he has a good example of a cross bred motoro that is "wild" So it is going to happen if you like it or not just my $.02..

Nothing is wrong with it unless they are labeled something else as TB said. They need to be labeled as such.

Yes hystrix x motoro is a cool breed. Look at some of big daves threads he has pictures of the cross he had, very neat raY!!!
I think it can be a great idea for hobbiest as we can produce an "aquarium ready" ray that can be kept in smaller enclosures by breeding smaller rays together.
