To be a hobbyist is to fuel the capture of rays, just the opposite of conversation.

Why delude yourselves that you are doing it for the rays benefit, when thousands of rays have already been killed in the capture, transit and keeping stages of the hobby.

You can't multi-class as a paladin assassin.

Want to save the wild rays?

Simple.

Don't buy any.

Is there any evidence of this? There are some cases where the hobby has actually SAVED populations of fish. The collectors realize the economic value of the fish and protect the collection area from natives that use a certain poison to deprive the water of oxygen in order for them to catch fish for consumption. More research should be done prior to a conclusion like this.

After decades not 1 arowana/pleco release program has happened due to their value... all that talk about releasing pure breeds back into the wild is and will be nothing more than just talk.
damned.

Who said anything about releasing them?

The more we captive breed the less we have to take out of the wild.

Plain and simple.

Conservation is not plain and not simple.

I never said conservation was easy.

Breeding rays in captivity on the other hand is not rocket science.

The ornamental fish trade does have a huge impact on the wild.
Perhaps I should have reworded my statement earlier.

I really am only trying to stress the importance of captive breeding's potential to save alot of wild rays from unnecessary deaths.

rays caught for the ornamental trade are a small % of the total rays caught/killed.
I believe this is true.
There was an article that claimed that a lot of motoro's were being killed in tourist spots and a lot more being killed for food, forgot where I read this...

They are also just killed as a nuisance.
