So i am trying to prep for the future a bit here. I bought a small red dragon flowerhorn in hopes that it was a male and me thinks that it is female. These are my observations as well as what others have guessed and seen from the pics. The flowerhorn has a very definite black spot on the dorsal fin. This is leading me to think female. I was planning on putting it in my tank of other male CA's but now I don't think that is the best idea. She is currently in a 20gal long tank just to grow out but clearly that isn't holding her long term. Right now she is close to 4". Here's my thoughts and options. First option! I have a 90 gallon holding a 12" aggressive spit fire male of what I believe to be a creamsicle midas. The stores tank said red devil but pretty sure it is a midas. He's gorgeous! I thought I could maybe put the female flowerhorn in with the midas when she gets a bit bigger and see if they bond. He didn't do well with the convicts i had in there with him and beat them all down, so I don't know how he would do with a girlfriend. If they bond I don't want to be breeding some abomination of a hybrid either. Or!... Second option. I try to put my big midas in my community 125 tank and hope he doesn't destroy everyone in there like the war path he was on when he was first in the 125. Then the 90 is open to a breeding pair of flowehorns which I would like to do anyway, but not get rid of my midas. Then I just need to find a male flowerhorn. But would a 90 gallon be enough room anyway. Let me know your thoughts and experiences everyone so I can better guide this direction. Here's some pics of the lil flowerhorn and here is a youtube video of my midas a few months ago so you all get the picture. Thanks!
