Haha. You know me..i like to stir the pot. Anyways, it is more cruel that he won't sell the fish separate from the system! It is anyone's guess about his water change schedule but if he is making frequent changes, why is the water level so low in the tank? I hope it is a day's worth of evaporation:)
My 135 discus tank evaporates nearly 4" a day.

wow so you just made me think if i should use my 40 instead of my 70 for growing out....umm intresting. and ive read somewhere that taller tanks promotes fish growing vertically, giving the "hi-fin" look of the discus fish. i wonder if that is true
I don't think that rumor has too much merit. I have some hi-fin discus from Mac's Discus which had a higher fin than their siblings that were all grown out in the same tanks.

thats an odd 40. but nonetheless thats a little overstocked, 10 would be tops and i wouldnt want to have to clean that thing 3 times a week

To grow discus to look like they do in that tank, water changes were done FAR more than 3 times a week. It is part of discus keeping though.

Looks fine to me. So long as he is able to keep the water quality up to par, and the fish arent stressed....add more!! To me, I dont see that as cruel. If you think that is cruel I suggest you take a look at a commercial fish farm and their stocking practicies. On most commercial food fish farms (tilapia for example), they stock fish at rates as high as 1 pound per gallon of water!! Same goes for ornamental fish growers.

-Ryan[/quoteI agree with ryan.

As long as the filters good and they are healthy what's the problem?
