Cruelty to animals

MOST People buy p's because of how they kill and eat. No other reason really. They aren't really pretty. Though are pretty damn shy most of the time. Honestly they are a boring ass fish... unless they are hungry and you feed them live food.
So, most people feed their p's feeder goldfish. Well... for a lot of people feeder goldfish are boring to watch get eaten. They are simply too small. Its a nibble here and a nibble there and they are basically gone. And that isn't the "feeding frenzy" that most owners of p's are looking for. So some step their game up and buy things that are bigger than can actually be hunted... whether it be bigger fish or other animals like rodents.
Why do they do this? Because... like a lot of people that buy fish... they bought them to be entertained. And p's are only entertaining when they feed. So... people buy bigger fish and watch them get ripped apart bit by bit because it is entertaining to them.
Now... do I have a problem with this?
No... I actually don't.
And maybe I am just weird, but I am not gonna lie and say I don't enjoy watching animals kill other animals. Sounds cruel maybe but its true. Guess what... I love watching discovery channel about predators. Now do I watch these shows because I love seeing Lions care for their babies? Nope. Do I watch these shows because I love watching Cheetahs mate? Sure don't. Do I watch shows that are about animals like Manta Rays or Cows? Hell no.
I watch these shows because I like watching a cheetah run down a gazelle and kill it. I watch theses shows because I enjoy watching a group of crocs waiting for the zebra to get into the water, grab it, and death roll it. I watch these shows because it is fun to a group of falcons swoop into a group of bats, grabbing one, and eating it mid air.
I also enjoy watching fish hunt live food. I have fed feeder guppies to my small cichlids and watched them eat them one by one. It was cool to watch them hunt. When my roomate brings feeder gold fish for the fish in our apartment, I watch the arro, the jag, and the oscar chase one down and gobble it up. We just threw a crayfish into the tank a week ago, and watching oscar try to figure out away around claws, then watching the oscar grab the cray fish, toss it in the air, and the arro comes out of now where and eats it was fun to watch. My roomate would buy saltwater fish to feed to his lioinfish and eels. He would buy crabs to feed to his sharks. And we watched because it was entertaining. I go to the video forum every day to watch videos on here.
And I damn well know I am not the only one here that does this. When I go to the video forum on this site... which videos have the most replies? It is ALWAYS the feeding videos or the versus videos.
It is just the p's feed messy, the feed slow (nip things to death), and it seems cruel because it isn't clean and it isn't pretty.
One thing I will say is that I do draw the line. I actually don't enjoy watching p's feed... it bores me. Too slow and they just nip nip nip. Doesn't really entertain me a ton. And I don't put domesticated animals like dogs and cats in the same category as fish... IMO they are a step above (just my opinion).

Hunting is different though, most of the prey suffer instant death or near-instant death.
If they really want to watch a feeding frenzy, they can just chuck in a big carcass of chicken or a pork leg like what would happen in real life. It has the same effect and it is just as entertaining to most people. The only thing is people think that piranhas are naturally pack hunters like in those 70s movies.

hmmm... feeding techniques and watching hunts etc is just a small part of learning anything to do with natural history... I'd never sit down and watch it just waiting for all the "kills". And that is the only reason I can think of to feed live aside from making sure the fish won't starve because it won't take anything else, and you'd only need to see/do it once. You are right with why many people end up with piranhas. You can be damn sure if they could they'd have the 50 000 tank stock it full of red bellies and lower a cow in.
man i will have to stop smoking and get out of the 70's....i thoght they were pack hunters.....doh

- a croc dragging a zebra into the water... letting it swim, dragging into in teh water again, ect is near instant?
do I really need to keep giving examples? Many kills are far from instant
