Cruelty to fish and crustaceans

Im confused at what braught all of this down on the guy. Was it the conditions? If so then how do they explain how feeder fish are kept in lfs those are some horrible conditions.

If it was the hith then we are all going to jail.

If it was his abandonment then we need to blame the landlord too

Hello; This got me to thinking and I promptly fell asleep. When I awoke I must have dreamed about it. It would be interesting if any landlord who rented and allowed pets also had to be responsible same as the pet owner. Afraid that's it. I don't have anything better.

I do have 72 paragraphs of unrelated stuff but I think my keyboard is low on ink.

Up to the age of ten my family had food animals. I helped kill them and I also ate them. Folks around were mostly struggling or poor. If a pet dog got a broken leg or too sick you put it down and out of the misery. Few took them to a vet except for basic shots.
Never saw folks raise dog for fighting but did know some who raised fighting chickens. Did see some dogs fights but it was the dogs idea to start with.

I don't think anyone liked cats except my sister. (probably wrong about that) I have come to appreciate cats but they stuff me up so will not have one in a house.

I may keep fish for a while longer but the new rules and laws do discourage keeping cats and dogs. Way too much liability and also too many folks with a say so as to how I must keep an animal. After all we here on this forum go round and round on a bunch of common issues and do not come to a consensus. I am running out of black so will stop.

And im sure people would have a problem with that too.

I would love to know the reason for the arrest. Was it the conditions or because he left it behind. I understand the charges but that irrelevant.

Maybe he had to be out asap. Maybe he had kids to worry about... a whole list of what ifs
Bring your fish to a lfs or rescue.... give it to a freind or family member...

We dont know any if those options were available. I dont know a single person or lfs in my area that would take in a large fish

Hello; Same for me. If there are any fish keepers near me I am not aware. Also big fish like Oscars need big tanks and if I had a big tank running it would already have fish in it.

I think a point should be stressed. I get that so many feel for the welfare of a fish. I recall we went around a few months ago over a neglected betta. For some the only thing that appears to matter is the living conditions of the fish. The law and other circumstances fall in several places down if at all.
I get the fish was abandoned and likely using a strict definition of the law the guy got what he deserved. However a fish is not like a dog or cat. With those they can be dropped off along a road somewhere and you drive a way. Plenty do that around my area as strays show up from time to time.

So I guess this is a wake up call for all with big fish like Oscars. If you get in financial or health trouble and cannot do right for it by someone else's standards, then you need a plan. My more likely scenario will be some ailment that prevents regular tank up keep.

The more i think about it i feel like the officials involved were over zealous animal lovers. Have to imagine there could have been a more productive outcome. Guy most likely has financial issues i bet its going to be real hard to find employment with this on his record along with his picture plastered all over the internet

Yeah I thought about it.
I saw this on my local news broadcast with his picture and all the information about the bail, showed his mugshot.
I know for a fact that we’ve all seen fish kept in bad conditions either on line, like Craig’s list posts as well as bad LFS with tanks full of dead or dying fish.
I agree something should have been done about just walking off and leaving an animal to starve.
But this seem a little overkill for the offense to me.
Blasting the guys picture all over the TV.
A local store got robbed at gun point a few weeks ago and they only mentioned their names didn’t even show a mugshot of the gun man.

I say again that had nothing to do with caring about the fish and everything to do with the town needing money/having empty jail space/cops wanting to increase their arrest records.

Glad you went there because thats a damn sad truth.

Smh some states have more concern for animal live than human lives... ie NY

That could very well be the truth
