It depends on usage and how much dirt it absorbs.

But I'm going for regeneration every 3 months.

You use bleach to clear it up, then seachem prime to make it safe for reuse.

I've never regenerated before, will do it in the coming weeks, I can post some info on how it went,

I took out my 300-400 ml bag of purigen today.

It was very dark brown, put it in a zip lock bag for food, put a liter of water and a liter of bleach, within minutes it started to clear up the purigen.

Will let it remain in the bleach for a day, then tomorrow I'll rinse it and put it water and prime.

Will put it to use in a 2217 Eheim.

I think a small 100ml bag in the fx6 is good enough, so I can have more bio filtration in there.

I reduce feedings, light time (for algae), good filtration and lots of water changes will all give you clear water.
